Understanding the nature of interactions between surface water and groundwater in karst environments, and groundwater system monitoring requirements are the key prerequisites for management of transboundary aquifers in this part of Europe. As the region develops and becomes fully intergrated within EU, it will be crucial to establish very close and completely transparent cooperation regarding data management and data utilization for purposes of management and protection of transboundary karst aquifers.
